About Us

Founded in 1969 in Milan by Giampaolo Prearo, Prearo Editore has established itself as one of the most significant entities in contemporary art publishing, distinguishing itself for its commitment to documenting and promoting international artistic avant-gardes.

1969: The Origins

The meeting with the poet Emilio Villa and the artist Mario Schifano marks the beginning of an innovative publishing project. The publishing house debuts with monographs dedicated to contemporary artists, created in close collaboration with them, laying the foundations for a quality and research editorial production.

1970s: Avant-garde Monographs and Magazines

In the 1970s, Prearo Editore published important monographs on artists such as Giulio Turcato (1971), Gianni Bertini (1971) and Mimmo Rotella (1973), with texts by important critics such as Giorgio De Marchis and Tommaso Trini. At the same time, from 1971 to 1978, it created the avant-garde art magazine "DATA", in collaboration with Tommaso Trini and Gianenzo Sperone, contributing significantly to the artistic debate of the time.

1980s-1990s: Postmodern Explorations and Photography

With the advent of postmodernism, the publishing house broadens its horizons by publishing volumes on artists such as William Xerra (1985) and André Masson (1991), with texts by Gillo Dorfles and Achille Bonito Oliva. In these years, attention also extends to photography, consolidating the role of Prearo Editore in the contemporary art scene.

2000s: Innovation and International Collaborations

In the new millennium, the publishing house continues to explore new frontiers of contemporary art, publishing volumes such as "Corpo Elettronico" (2012), dedicated to Italian video art. Collaborations with internationally renowned artists, including Bernar Venet and Stefan Hirsig, testify to the constant commitment to promoting art on a global level.

Today: A Cultural Center in the Heart of Milan

Recently, Prearo Editore moved its headquarters to via Moneta 1, a few steps from the Pinacoteca Ambrosiana. This space is not just a publishing house, but a true cultural center that hosts book presentations, exhibitions and meetings with artists, consolidating Prearo's role as a point of reference for contemporary art in Milan.

Distinctive Series and Publications

The editorial production is divided into various series, including:

Major Monographic Works : dedicated to emblematic figures of contemporary art, with in-depth critical texts.

Preariana : small volumes on the theory of art, edited by Giorgio Verzotti.

Profiles : agile monographs on young emerging artists, edited by Marco Meneguzzo.
