Achille Bonito Oliva (Caggiano, November 4, 1939) is an Italian art critic. He is considered the founder of the Transavanguardia.
After graduating from high school in 1961, he graduated in law at the University of Naples "Federico II". He then enrolled in the Faculty of Letters and developed his initial vocation: poetry. He participated, among other things, in the research of Gruppo 63 with his first books of poetry: Made in Mater in 1967 and Fiction Poems in 1968. In 1970 he organized the exhibition Vitalità del negativo in Rome, which hosted artists known in the field of Arte Povera such as Jannis Kounellis and Michelangelo Pistoletto. It was precisely this exhibition that gave rise to a profound comparison between these artists and the past of Italian art and culture.
